DEPRESSION : MAJOR PROBLEM
Depression is common mental disorder that presents with depressed mood , lack of interest, decreased energy, feeling guilt, low self-esteem, disturbed sleep appetite, lack of pleasure
GLOBAL ISSUE:
Depression eventually leads person to commit suicide. Almost 1 million lives are lost yearly due to suicide means almost 3000 death each single day
Depression has affected more than 350 million person whole around globe
Affects both male and female but affect 50% more to female than male
HOW CAN YOU PREVENT YOURSELF DEVELOPING DEPRESSION?
(1) Do some form of exercise everyday it is good not only for physical but also for mental health
(2) Maintain good weight and reduce stress level
(3) Eat healthy diet including whole grain, fresh fruits, vegetables, proteins, low fat diet
(4) Meditation, deep breathing to reduce stress
(5) Have regular routine of bed have good sleep
(6) Openly communicate with your family member, loved ones as the will provide u support
-They can make you feel like you are not alone
-They can listen you
-They can help you find resources
-They can help you to maintain healthy lifestyle
-They can help you stick to your treatment plan
(7) Avoid any kind of abuse like alcohol etc
(8) Create your daily routine
(9) Peer support group
-Peer support group or group meeting with other people with depression, can be helpful for some people
HOW TO RECOVERY FROM DEPRESSION??
1.Seek help from Physician
2.Have your Anti depression medication (SSRI etc)
3. Rehabilitation
4.Most important Try to recovery
- Finding hope
-Personal empowerment in your own wellness
-Expanding your knowledge about your illness
-Establishing Support network
-creating secure home base
- Defining sense of meaning of your life
- Developing coping strategy
HELPING SOMEONE TO COPE WITH DEPRESSION?
(1) Talk to them and listen to them but don't force them to talk if they aren't interested This makes conversation easy
(2) Tell them your are always there for u
(3) Understand depression it's course, treatment,symptoms and act according to it this will make them better
(4) Supporting their Treatment
Make them to take medication every day. Provide additional support Take them to physician whenever possible
(5) Check for distress in the person like check suicidal tendency check this warning sign like they say they don't want to live etc should not be taken lightly
(6) Help them with day to day living
-Make them take shower
-Ask them to get fresh air outside
(7) Supporting regular activities
Like take them to movies weekly or play tennis, cricket
Depression is major problem in world and incidence is increasing
Prevention is better than cure
So avoid depression by living healthy life
If u know anyone with depression help them to cope with that
