HEALTH PROBLEMS IN OLD AGE PEOPLE:
Elderly person is one who is aged 60 years or more
1.Problems due to ageing process
Deterioration in vitality and lowering of biological efficiency accompanies ageing with passage of time certain biological changes takes place which eventually lead to death, these are cataract, glaucoma, osteoporosis, nerve deafness
2.Problem associated with long term illness
a. Degenerative diseases of heart and blood Vessels resulting into atherosclerosis ,hypertension and eventually coronary artery disease resulting into heart attack
b. Cancer is second leading cause of death among 65 + in India prostate cancer in male and cervical cancer in female
c. Bones are fragile due to decalcification and breaks easily
d. Usually diabetes are associated in most of adult
e. Chronic bronchitis, asthma, emphysema also developes
f. Dysuria, Nocturia, increase in frequency of micturition
3.Psychological problems
a. Impaired memory, rigidity and non adjustable 
b. Sexual dysfunction that is decrease in sexual activity 
c. Emotional disorder like inner withdrawal depression as older people are neglected, wearness of life, even suicide tendency
                               
HOW TO MAKE HEALTHY AGEING
Ageing is biological phenomenon, in which there is decrease in biological efficiency
By adopting an healthy lifestyle from an early age, one can reduce the risk of these diseases to great extent
1.Healthy diet

2.Physical activity
Indulging in physical activity of 30-45 min 5-6 times a week reaps several benefit and should be practiced, physical activity helps to control weight, improve blood circulation, lower blood pressure and decreases blood glucose levels, improves emotional well being and relieves stress, increase flexibility improve balance and bone density
3.Refrain from tobacco and alcohol 
Tobacco consumption either in smoke or Smokeless form associated with oral, lung, oesophageal cancer
Alcohol consumption is associated with liver disease, stomach ulcers, gout, depression, osteoporosis, heart disease, breast cancer, diabetes, hypertension
4.Participation in social activities
In old age people tend to get socially isolated therefore an active effort should be made to mingle with others of the same age group. Being part of support group is encouraged
